With so many different options out there, it can be difficult choosing the right underscarf (also called undercap) when starting out on your hijab journey.
The beauty of it, is that you can play around with different options and choose what works right for you!
I used to love the tie-back underscarves, and at one point switched over to the tube style instead. Whatever works for you!
Why do we need an undercap?
Undercaps are used for a few reasons.
You put on an underscarf first, and then the hijab over on top of it.
They help your hijab from slipping off, and are also what keep your pins in place.
Ever try setting a pin into your hair directly? Ouch! It's definitely not fun!
Under caps also help keep your hair out of your face allowing a neat look without any loose strands of hair peeking out.
This is an incredibly popular underscarf style.
The tube style is worn like a headband, you simply slide it on over your head, and then pull up to the hairline.
The back of the tube style is open, to allow for you to style your hair in whichever style you are comfortable. It's also great for anyone that has a LOT of hair, and doesn't want to feel constrained.
This underscarf style was invented out of necessity, when covid times hit. But soon became a client favorite!
Hijabis needed a way to wear their masks without adjusting their entire hijabs.
Thus, the regular tube underscarf was given an upgrade with cutouts for the ears!
What was unexpected was how in DEMAND this ear hole underscarf would become, even AFTER masks were no longer the norm.
Hijabis began enjoying this style, as it kept pressure off of the ears.
It also allowed ease for wearing headphones!
A very common and much loved underscarf style is the tieback style.
This underscarf allows you to decide how loose or snug you want to have your underscarf fit on your head.
This can be especially helpful for those who get headaches from their undercaps being too snug all day long.
It also has an open back to allow for the hairstyle of your choice and to fit a scrunchie volumizer in if needed.
Satin-Lined Tieback Underscarf
Similar to the tieback underscarf, the satin-lined underscarf looks the same on the outside, but with a major difference on the bottom.
One of the complaints that some hijabis may have after starting hijab, is the complaint of the change in their hair and scalp.
Some will either get frizzy hair, or an oily scalp, or even some breakage and hair loss.
Devout hijabis usually look for options that would help tackle theses issues.
Thus, the no slip satin-lined underscarf was created.
This underscarf is lined only towards the back, leaving the front that sits on your hair line unlined. This allows for your underscarf to still remain in place, and not slip back.
The satin lining gives a smooth friction-free surface, leaving the hair healthier, without frizz, and less chance of breakage or hair loss.
